about
The earliest document relating to Hartshorne is the survey of 1086 when it was an Anglo Saxon under Edward the Confessor. The name Hartshorne is also of Anglo Saxon origin and refers to the stag’s or hart’s horn shaped hill in whose basin Hartshorne lies.
The first recorded church was in 1291 although Hartshorne had been a religious focal point since the mid 600s and the church was probably built on an earlier religious site.
The first East window depicting the crucifixion of Christ was installed in 1892 in memory of William Henry Buckley the Rector from 1833—1892. There have been many restorations and improvements over the years to improve the environment of those worshipping and to enable the church to be used more effectively in the community.
